The reference values
| Group | Value per day | Type of value |
|---|---|---|
| 19 to under 65 years | 0.8 g/kg[1] | Recommended intake, DGE |
| 65 years and over | 1.0 g/kg[1] | Estimated value, DGE |
| Adults | 0.83 g/kg[2] | EFSA reference value |
Example: at 70 kg, 0.8 g/kg comes to about 56 g of protein a day.[1]
With overweight, meaning a BMI over 25, DGE says to base the calculation on normal weight, not on current weight.[1] DGE gives separate values for pregnancy and breastfeeding.
What these values do not say
Reference values describe adequate supply, not weight loss. They say nothing about whether more protein helps you lose weight.
How the app handles this
Entering protein is optional, and the app sets no target for it. If you state diabetes or kidney disease in the safety questions, you do not see the protein way. This only means the feature is missing and is no recommendation for another way. In that case, talk to your doctor.
The app does not replace medical advice.
